The Business of Content Creation

Super cool AI generated image.
How to make this a career. 💼
I would say around 95% of content creators I have spoken with, which has to be in the hundreds at this point, lack the business experience to turn their side hustle into a full time endeavor, which is fine if they want to keep it as a side hustle, but a lot of them want this to be their full time occupation.
If you are making money the same way that 95% of content creators are (paid brand deals, affiliate deals, ad revenue), this means you have no advantage in your monetization strategy compared to the average creator.
Here are some monetization methods that the top 5% most successful content creators implement:
Launching a digital product (course, e-book, graphics) etc.
Launching a physical product (merchandise).
Tips (buymeacoffee.com) is a great tool for this.
Working with multiple agencies that find them deals (or doing outreach to brands themselves).
Long-term brand deals.
Doing UGC (user generated content) work.
Here is a YouTube video you NEED to watch talking about all of the different ways to make money as a content creator:
Creativity vs Business. 📝
Creativity is fun, business sucks. Now don’t get confused, business is fun at the start, when you do your first few deals or have a little success, but after the initial excitement fades away, it’s all grit, determination and dedication that will make or break it for you.
This means if you want to stay a content creator long-term, you’ll need to develop both sides of you, the creative side and the business side.
Building systems will make your “business side” a LOT easier. Systems for content creators usually include organizational software such as Notion, Excel, and Calendly, along with AI sales automation software’s like ManyChat.
Here is a YouTube video you should check out that goes more into depth about systems:
Conclusion.
Treat content creation as a business, not just a little side gig. This will give you an advantage so big that you will be miles ahead of other creators in your niche.
