5/23/2024

Analyzing the strategies of successful creators is something that I’ve wanted to do for a while now. So for the first post in this series, I chose the content god himself, MrBeast.

Backstory 🏠

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, started his YouTube career at age 13. After testing out many different kinds of styles, formats, and video ideas he eventually discovered that challenge-style videos with huge rewards were the best possible video style to build an audience and loyal fanbase.

After being a content creator for more than a decade, MrBeast has proven that longevity and sustainability are the recipe for success as a creator.

Audience Breakdown 👀

MrBeast has multiple YouTube channels across different niches and languages. Here are some of his channels:

  • Beast Reacts: Reviews life hacks, primarily featuring his friends.

  • MrBeast Gaming: Started in April 2020, mainly plays Minecraft, but also features other games.

  • MrBeast 2: For miscellaneous videos, including live streams.

  • Beast Philanthropy: All proceeds go to a food bank.

  • Don't Subscribe: Collaboration with JackSucksAtLife, aiming for 1 million subscribers with no videos.

  • MrBeast Extra: Uploaded a $200,000 YouTuber Battle Royale video.

Total subscribers for all of his YouTube channels amount to over 400 million.

Along with his YouTube portfolio, MrBeast also has over 56 million followers on Instagram, 95 million on TikTok, and almost 30 million on X.

It’s fair to say he has a pretty large audience.

Production 📹

With over 250 employees, MrBeast can produce professional-level content, sometimes better than that of Netflix/Hollywood films.

Recently, MrBeast bought a warehouse to film content in, this will allow him to create content at scale.

In terms of editing, MrBeast and his team most likely use AI editors such as Opus Clip/Opus Pro to create short-form content from their long-form videos.

Income 💰

MrBeast has an estimated net worth of over $300 million so let’s break down how exactly his money is made:

  • Feastables - $100 million revenue

  • Ad Revenue - $36 million revenue

  • Sponsorships - $10 million revenue

  • Merch - $2 million revenue

  • Investments/partnerships - N/A

MrBeast has said many times that he reinvests almost every single dollar of profit back into his business, so his actual profit is most likely near zero after his reinvestments, but that’s what it takes to be the most popular YouTuber on the planet.

Key Takeaways 📝

MrBeast is a prime example of how dedication and perseverance compounded over many years can result in astounding success.

It’s also important to note that his constant reinvestments back into his business were one of the main culprits of his success.

Good luck!
