Setting and Achieving Goals

Setting and Achieving Goals as a Creator 📑

As a content creator, if you don’t set and achieve your goals, you will be beaten by someone who did, which is why setting and achieving goals is crucial to the longevity of your content creation career.

There are two main types of goals you should set:

  1. Small, easily attainable goals.

  2. Large goals that seem out of reach.

Both are equally as important, the small goals give you a steady feeling of accomplishment and progress, while the large goals keep you hungry, chasing your dreams.

Before we get started I would highly recommend using a free tool such as Notion to keep track of and organize goals, here is the link if you want to try it out, and again it’s completely free, no card is needed:

This is not sponsored, I just really like Notion

Now let’s dive into our process for setting and achieving goals as a content creator:

Define Your Goals 📍

Niche Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve within your niche. For example, “I want to reach 10,000 followers in the fitness niche within 3 months by posting valuable content every day while making sure to engage with my audience to the best of my abilities.” As you can see, this approach is much better than “I want to hit 10,000 followers”, you need to be as specific as possible when setting goals if you want your desired outcome to occur.

Content Goals: Set specific content creation goals, such as your posting frequency, video quality, value provided, audience feedback, etc. An example would be, “I want to produce 7 pieces of content this week, all of which provide value and get a generally positive reaction from my audience.”

Break Down Large Goals 🪚

Milestones: Break your main goal into smaller, achievable milestones. If your goal is to hit 100,000 YouTube subscribers, the broken-down version would be a milestone at the first 1,000, 10,000, and then every 10,000 more until you hit 100,000 subs.

Actionable Steps: Identify the actionable steps required to achieve each milestone, such as improving your video editing skills, communication skills, networking with other creators, etc.

Set Realistic and Achievable Goals

Resource Assessment: Evaluate the resources (time, money, equipment,) you have and how they can be optimized towards achieving your goals. Setting unrealistic goals without considering your resources can lead to creator burnout.

Create a SMART Goal:

Specific - Clearly define your goal.

Measurable - Ensure you can measure the desired outcome.

Attainable - Set goals you know you can achieve.

Relevant - Set goals relevant to your career, education, and skill set.

Time-bound - Set a deadline for completion.
