Viral Hook Strategy

3/20/2024
You have probably heard of the term “hook” concerning content creation/marketing, but today I want to break this concept down so that you can reliably create viral hooks for your videos.
You can think of a hook as a first impression, a way to hook viewers to watch the rest of the video, the better it is the longer you can retain your audience, and as I’ve said in previous posts, higher audience retention = more views.
When you post on social media you are competing against BILLIONS of other videos, which is why a good hook at the start of every video is necessary.
This post is about hooks related to educational content where you are trying to teach your audience something, entertainment style video hooks are different.
Main Types of Hooks 🪝
For these hooks, I am going to use a video example about changing your PC settings to increase FPS while playing video games.
Negative reversal (ex. “If you don’t change this one setting you will be missing out on insane FPS”)
Reward (ex. “This one setting change got me 50 more FPS, let me show you how I did it”)
Sneak Peek (ex. Here is what my FPS looks like after I changed some simple settings and I’m going to show you how you can do it too”)
Although these hooks sound different, they all follow the same simple strategy we made, if you want to download the strategy and try it out for yourself here is the link:
Extra Info 📝
It’s important that after the hook you can deliver what you promised, this way viewers will rewatch and share the post therefore increasing its virality.
Another great way to find viral hooks is to take inspiration from other creators in your niche and see what their most viral hooks are.
Best of luck in the week ahead!
